Various thoughts and feelings.... a place on the Internet to call my own...

All the news that's fit to print

Well, I think it’s about time for me to actually sit down and spend some time to redesign my websites. I want to implement a better layout with more uniform navigation, better links to projects and interests, and easier back-end maintenance.

I’ve been using Drupal 6.x for about 2 years now and while it is very flexible, it is not always the easiest to maintain, especially when weird errors crop up. I also had a personal WordPress site that I was using for about a year, but because of some unhealthy interest in my site, I decided to mothball it.

Lost

Vain my tears, rising unbidden like crashing waves
Endlessly hurled against fate’s uncaring shoals
Breaking me, cast upon the wreckage of my dreams
Who am I to master the longings of my heart?

Morning Memories

I wrote this poem on the way home Sunday night. It came to me as I was thinking about how I keep some memories dear to me, even though the heat of the moment has long since passed. I was reminded of a poem in a novel by Stephen R. Donaldson in his Thomas Covenant series. It was told by a Giant about how even dust is dear when it holds the memory of one who was there.

I honestly don’t remember much of the orignal poem, since it was a novel I read when I was a teenager. But it stuck with me, maybe even subliminally, so my apologies if I have too closely mirrored the orignal.

The pulsing of my heart is like the sea—

My Love

My love, it wanders through the vales alone

Hidden Tears

Hidden tears, falling from my eyes
Soundless wailing, screaming, flailing
Empty face, a harlequin disguise
Broken sounds of heartbeats failing

A response to GeekGirlDiva's Ponderation on Geek Dating & Love Lives (or lack there of)

I posted a comment on her blog page, but since it’s moderated and not posted, I’m not sure the status. I hate double posting, but I also don’t want to loose my thoughts. Which I’m likely to do since I have the memory of a fish ;-)

Anyway, the original article is posted here:

Hmmm… well not that I’m any expert in relationships, especially since I’m back in the “scene” again, but I think that intelligence is one of those attributes like “creativity” which is best expressed in context.

Embedded QuickTime Streaming Media Content

This following QuickTime sample is being streamed live from a Darwin Streaming Server running on this system. The sample rate is approximately 300 kbps and is being broadcast real time, not on demand. I have tested this with a realtime VLC transcoding session and it works just as well… ;-)
