The Cage

My heart is restless and wild—
My thoughts long to be free,
But I’ve locked them in a cage
Behind bars for the world to see

See the fearsome beast,
The strength that flows within.
Who could tame such a creature
Or set it free again?”

The shackles of pain bind its feet,
A chain of loss and woe
That binds its heart and turns its path
And guides where it must go.

And so my heart it wanders
Within a narrow cage,
Ever longing for the freedom
It knew another age…
