The Rose
I wrote this poem for a special girl back in high school… not sure exactly when. I think it was when I was a Junior in High School back in ‘90. I don’t think I ever did show it to her. *smiles*
When first you entered in my forest glade
You set the fires of my heart ablaze
And when my longing eyes did catch your gaze
My troubled soul, to rest content, you laid.
While flowering flora garbed in greenest jade
Seemed not your perfect countenance to faze,
The boasting buds, your beauty did amaze
‘Till all save one did pine away and fade.
And that one flower standing in it’s pride
Did look at you and boast of scent and sight
While all the murmurs silenced in a hush.
The fragrance of your hair and it were tied,
But when it sought for something just as bright
You smiled and caused that once white rose to blush.
